(Arnolds Park)– A ribbon cutting of the newly renovated State Pier at the Arnolds Park Amusement Park will be held during a ceremony this Saturday. The attraction will also be dedicated during Saturday’s event in the memory of Berkley Bedell. Michele Goodenow of Imagine Iowa Great Lakes, which was involved in the renovation of the project, says it will be a very fitting tribute to a man who did a lot for the Iowa Great Lakes…
“We were approached by a group of individuals back in January that thought it would be a nice tribute to Berkley to have the pier that was in the process of being renovated named in honor of him. He was such an important part of our community for so many years from creating Berkley and Company to serving, you know, through government and just all his conservation efforts over the years. Saving the park, creating the Okoboji Foundation. So we talked to the HAPI Board and decided that we would move forward and try and get that done so. The DNR agreed to it and voted to allow us to do that.”
Goodenow says Saturday’s ribbon cutting and dedication will begin at 11:30 am at the State Pier…
“So there’s Farmer’s Market in the park Saturday like there has been every Saturday this summer, and Imagine Iowa Great Lakes is actually sponsoring it this Saturday, so we’ll be there at 8:30. KUOO as you know will be broadcasting live between 10:30 and 11:30 doing some interviews with Tom Bedell and some of the Imagine board members, and then the ribbon cutting starts at 11:30. We will have a few people saying, sharing some remarks and Mayor Hussong will close out the ceremony before the ribbon is cut.”
The event will also be streamed live on the Explore Okoboji Facebook page.
