(Okoboji)– The Okoboji City Council last (Tues.) evening voted to enter into an agreement with Beck Engineering for a preliminary design for the reconstruction of Sanborn Avenue between Highway 71 and Lakeshore Drive. City Administrator Michael Meyers told the council Imagine Iowa Great Lakes has agreed to donate $63,000 to cover the cost of the preliminary design…

“This is the first step of exploring the Sanborn Avenue project, so what Beck Engineering will do is basically just what the agreement here says. They’ll do all the necessary topography, design work and preliminary design, 3-D renderings of the improvements; they’ll put together photos and a video of what we can expect to see, and then they’ll do the estimated cost for the project. In conjunction with Imagine, the city of Okoboji and Beck Engineering will all work together on this and this is anticipated to be complete probably by May, I would think, at which point then we would be at another decision point as to how to proceed with this project.”

The council has talked about the possibility of putting in a boulevard and a trail along the street. Meyers says the preliminary engineering will determine whether there’s enough right-of-way to do that.

He added that the city of Okoboji will be the project owner.
