Call for Artists!
Are you interested in painting an original design on outdoor furniture to be enjoyed throughout the Iowa Great Lakes area?Applications for artists are due by April 12, 2021
Artist Painted Furniture
Imagine Iowa Great Lakes is commissioning six total sets of artist painted furniture, to provide seating and gathering places outside of local businesses with a focus on community oriented, pedestrian friendly spaces that will be positively impacted by artist painted outdoor seating.
The Imagine Iowa Great Lakes’ Mural Jury will select at least three artists and each selected artist will be commissioned to develop and execute designs on two sets of furniture. Sets are a picnic table, a park bench, or a pair of Adirondack chairs; selected artists will design and paint two sets for $1500. IIGL will provide primed the furniture, the artists will supply their own paint and painting supplies, and IIGL will seal the finished sets.
Selected artists should live within 100 miles of the Iowa Great Lakes or regularly spend time in the area.
Selected artists will develop designs for approval by the Mural Jury. Furniture will be available for selected artists to pick up and begin painting up to two weeks before the event. Artists will transport the furniture sets to Preservation Plaza for Art in the Park on August 14, 2021 and should paint the entire or a portion of the designs on their two sets of furniture during the event. Selected artists are encouraged to consider the event timeframe and which part of the painting will be most engaging for the public to watch. IIGL will weather seal completed furniture after the event and deliver to various sites.
